Rasul Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “Ask, and you shall be given it; and you shall be given it.” [Tirmidhi]

Rasul Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “Let everyone of you ask of His Lord all that He wants.” [Tirmidhi]

We were informed by our Prophet (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) that Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) fulfills everybody’s wishes so long as a person does not get impatient and say, ‘I asked Allah for so and so and I still haven’t received it.’ We are told never to despair of the mercy of Allah (subhan wa ta’ala).

The Prophet (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) informed us that there are several forms for the acceptance of dua. One is that you are given what you ask for. Another is that you are given better than what you asked for. A third is that some calamity that was about to befall you has been averted instead. The fourth is that the dua is saved up for you as sawaab/reward for the Day of Judgment. In all cases, asking Allah (subhana wa ta'ala) for things is beneficial.

Rasul Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “A believer does not allow himself to be stung twice from one (and the same) hole.” [Bukhari]

A Muslim is required to learn from his or her mistakes, analyze their failures and if there is any shortcoming that he can avoid repeating, then he or she is required to avoid it. Once an individual or group has shown evil behaviour towards us, we are not to become victims again. It is not only our personal experience that we are required to learn from, but the experience of the Muslim Ummah and the guidance that we receive from Allah (subhana wa ta'ala) in recognizing our friends and foes. Nobody knows better than Allah what is in a creatures heart: therefore, a sensible person will avoid harm by paying heed to the advice from the All Knower, Allah (subhana wa ta'ala).

Rasul Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “If ever immorality spreads in a community and there is no sense of shame on its occurrence or mentioning it (and people talk about it as if nothing bad has taken place), diseases which were not present in the time of their predecessors will spread among them.” [Ibn Majah, Al-Bazzar, Al-Bayhaqi]

We may not be committing indecent acts, yet if we ignore what is happening around us then we are to blame also. It is our job as the ummah of Muhammad (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) to carry on his message and guide and warn people. Once Hazrat Jibreel (alaihis salaam) was sent by Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) to destroy a town. Jibreel (alaihis salaam) asked if the pious man in the town, who spent his every moment in the remembrance of Allah, was also meant to be destroyed. Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) told him to annihilate that ‘pious’ man first, since he did not bother to guide his people.

Hazrat Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah [SAWW](PBUH) said, "When a man dies, his deeds come to an end except for three things: Sadaqah Jariyah (ceaseless charity); a knowledge which is beneficial, or a virtuous descendants (pious son) who prays for him (for the deceased).”

[Muslim
Book 13,Chapter 04, Hadith #
4005].

Narrated 'Ali:

Allah's Apostle sent me, Az-Zubair and Al-Miqdad saying, "Proceed till you reach Rawdat Khakh where there is a lady carrying a letter, and take that (letter) from her." So we proceeded on our way with our horses galloping till we reached the Rawda, and there we found the lady and said to her, "Take out the letter." She said, "I have no letter." We said, "Take out the letter, or else we will take off your clothes." So she took it out of her braid, and we brought the letter to Allah's Apostle . The letter was addressed from Hatib, bin Abi Balta'a to some pagans of Mecca, telling them about what Allah's Apostle intended to do. Allah's Apostle said, "O Hatib! What is this?" Hatib replied, "O Allah's Apostle! Do not make a hasty decision about me. I was a person not belonging to Quraish but I was an ally to them from outside and had no blood relation with them, and all the Emigrants who were with you, have got their kinsmen (in Mecca) who can protect their families and properties. So I liked to do them a favor so that they might protect my relatives as I have no blood relation with them. I did not do this to renegade from my religion (i.e. Islam) nor did I do it to choose Heathenism after Islam." Allah's Apostle said to his companions. "As regards him, he (i.e. Hatib) has told you the truth." 'Umar said, "O Allah's Apostle! Allow me to chop off the head of this hypocrite!" The Prophet said, "He (i.e. Hatib) has witnessed the Badr battle (i.e. fought in it) and what could tell you, perhaps Allah looked at those who witnessed Badr and said, "O the people of Badr (i.e. Badr Muslim warriors), do what you like, for I have forgiven you." Then Allah revealed the Sura:

"O you who believe! Take not my enemies And your enemies as friends offering them (Your) love even though they have disbelieved in that Truth (i.e. Allah, Prophet Muhammad and this Quran) which has come to you ....(to the end of Verse)....(And whosoever of you (Muslims) does that, then indeed he has gone (far) astray (away) from the Straight Path." (60.1)

^^ this hadith is related to a very long story and sob7an Allah that the prophet PBUH had wa7i to let him know of that letter but Hatib had gone out on the battle of Badr so he received no punishement...

Hazrat Anas (May Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah [SAWW] (PBUH) said, "When one of you supplicates, let him be decisive and he should not say: `O Allah, bestow upon me such and such if You wish’, because no one has the power to compel Him.”

[Al-Bukhari*Book 08, Chapter 75,
Hadith #
350].

The Prophet (sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam) said: "All of a human being's words count against him and not for him, except commanding the right, forbidding the wrong, and the mention of Allah Most High." [Tirmidhi]

The importance of keeping guard over what our tongue utters is so important that the Prophet (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said that he would guarantee Paradise to whoever could control his tongue and private parts from sin. The misuse of these is a common cause of being led to Jahannum. When Hazrat Abu Bakr (radi Allahu anhu) heard this, he put a large stone in his mouth to prevent himself from speaking without thinking. He would take the stone out if he had to speak, but then put it in again. How far we are from the example of the Sahabah...

We should adopt silence as our modus operandi, but silence when speaking is required is not commendable. Our words count in our favour, and should be uttered, when we command the right, forbid the wrong or are engaged in the remembrance of Allah Most High. Abul Qasim Qushayri said, "Safety lies in remaining silent, which should be one's basis. Silence at the appropriate time is the mark of men, just as speech at the appropriate time is one of the finest qualities. I have heard Abu Ali Daqqaq say, 'He who is silent when something should be said is a tongueless villain.'" [r 1.1: Reliance of the Traveller by Ahmad ibn Naqib al-Misri]

“All that is required for the triumph of evil is for good men to remain silent.”

Ubadah bin As-Samit (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: Messenger of Allah [SAWW](PBUH) said, "He who bears witness that there is no true god except Allah, alone having no partner with Him, that Muhammad is His slave and His Messenger, that `Isa (Jesus) is His slave and Messenger and he (Jesus) is His Word which He communicated to Maryam (Mary) and His spirit which He sent to her, that Jannah is true and Hell is true; Allah will make him enter Jannah accepting whatever deeds he accomplished".

[Muslim Book 01, Chapter 11, Hadith # 043].

Another narration in Muslim is: the Messenger of Allah [SAWW](PBUH) said, "Whosoever testifies that there is no true god except Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, Allah (SWT) saves him from the Fire (of Hell)".

Rasul Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “Give due respect and regard to your children and decorate them with the best of manners.” [Abu Daud]

Rasul Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wasallam) would be the first to give salaam to children as he would pass them, thereby teaching them Islamic manners with his own example. He (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) would have sweets and dates for them. Once the Prophet (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) was giving one of his grandsons a ride when somebody remarked, “What an excellent ride you have!” to his grandson. Rasul Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) immediately drew attention to the child instead by saying, “Don’t you see what an excellent rider I have!” This was the nature of Rasul Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam), that he would give love and importance to children. Are you on the sunnah of Rasul Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam)?

Hazrat Abdullah bin Mas`ud (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah [SAWW](PBUH) used to supplicate: "Allahumma inni as’alukal-huda, wat-tuqa, wal-`afafa, wal-ghina (O Allah! I beseech You for guidance, piety, chastity and contentment).”

[Muslim Book 35,
Chapter 17,*Hadith # 6566*].

Said Ibn 'Abbas, "The Prophet ordered us to prostrate on seven bodily parts and not to fold back the hair or clothing: the forehead, the hands, the knees and the feet." In another wording, the Prophet said, "I have been ordered to prostrate on seven bodily parts: the forehead, and he pointed to his nose, the hands, the knees and the ends of the feet." (Related by al-Bukhari and Muslim.) In another narration, he said, "I have been ordered to prostrate on seven bodily parts and not to fold back the hair or clothing: the forehead, the nose, the hands, the knees and the feet." (Related by Muslim and an-Nasa'i.)

Hazrat Ibn Mas`ud (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: He who likes to meet Allah tomorrow (i.e., on the Day of Requital) as a Muslim, should take care and observe the Salat when the Adhan is announced for them. Allah has expounded to your Prophet [SAWW](PBUH) the ways of right guidance, and these (the prayers) are part of the right guidance. If you have to perform Salat in your houses, as this man who stays away (from the masjid) and performs Salat in his house, you will abandon the Sunnah (practice) of your Prophet

“The People will soon summon one another to attack you as people when eating invite others to share their food.” Someone asked, “Will that be because of our small numbers at that time?” He replied, “No, you will be numerous at that time: but you will be froth and scum like that carried down by a torrent (of water), and Allah will take the fear of you from the breasts (hearts) of your enemy and cast al-wahn into your hearts.” Someone asked, “O Messenger of Allah, what is al-wahn?” He replied, “Love of the world and dislike of death.”

[An authentic hadith recorded by Abu Dawud and Ahmad]

Hazrat Adi bin Hatim At-Tai (May Allah be pleased with him) said: I heard the Messenger of Allah [SAWW](PBUH) say: "He who has taken an oath (to do something) but found something else better than that (which brings him closer to Allah), then he should do that which is better in piety (and he should expiate for the breaking of oath)".

[Muslim
Book 15,Chapter 02, Hadith #
4057]

Rasul Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “It is the excellence of a man’s faith that he gives up meaningless work.” [Tirmidhi, Ahmad]

List all your activities and label them to see which belong to the category of meaningless. If the activity is not taking you towards a meaningful goal for any of the roles that arise from your ideology (e.g. Muslim, parent, son/daughter, self, breadwinner, daee, etc), then it would be to your advantage to replace it with more meaningful activity. Anything that does not bring you closer to Jannat and distance you from the Fire is meaningless in the long run, and will cause you to regret when it is too late why you bothered to waste your time with it.
