20th Ramadan 1435 (18th July 2014)

Narrated Abu Juhaifa (Radi-Allahu 'anhu):

The Prophet (Sallallahu 'Alaihi Wa Sallam) made a bond of brotherhood
between Salman and Abu Ad-Darda.' Salman paid a visit to Abu Ad-Darda' and
found Um Ad-Darda' dressed in shabby clothes and asked her why she was in
that state.

She replied, "Your brother Abu Ad-Darda' is not interested in
(the luxuries of) this world." In the meantime Abu Ad-Darda' came and
prepared a meal for Salman. Salman requested Abu Ad-Darda' to eat (with
him), but Abu Ad-Darda' said, "I am fasting." Salman said, "I am not going
to eat unless you eat."

So, Abu Ad-Darda' ate(with Salman). When it was
night and (a part of the night passed), Abu Ad-Darda' got up (to offer the
night prayer), but Salman told him to sleep and Abu Ad-Darda' slept. After
sometime Abu Ad-Darda' again got up but Salman told him to sleep. When it
was the last hours of the night, Salman told him to get up then, and both
of them offered the prayer.

Salman told Abu Ad-Darda', "Your Lord has a
right on you, your soul has a right on you, and your family has a right on
you; so you should give the rights of all those who has a right on you."
Abu Ad-Darda' came to the Prophet (Sallallahu 'Alaihi Wa Sallam) and
narrated the whole story. The Prophet (Sallallahu 'Alaihi Wa Sallam) said,
"Salman has spoken the truth."

Two fasts and two kinds of sale are forbidden: fasting on the day of 'Id ul
Fitr and 'Id-ul-Adha and the kinds of sale called Mulamasa and Munabadha.

23rd Ramadan 1435 (21st July 2014)

Narrated Ibn 'Abbas (Radi-Allahu 'anhu):

I never saw the Prophet (Sallallahu 'Alaihi Wa Sallam) seeking to fast on a
day more (preferable to him) than this day, the day of 'Ashura', or this
month, i.e. the month of Ramadan.

This is truly a beautiful Hadith. Abdullah bin Mas'ud RA reported:

The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, "I know of the last of the inhabitants of the Hell to be taken out from there and the last one to enter Jannah. He is a man who will come out of the Fire, crawling on all fours. Allah will say to him: 'Go and enter Jannah.'

He will go to it and think that it is full up. He will then come back and say: 'O my Rubb, it is full up.' Allah will say to him: 'Go and enter Jannah.' He will again go to it and think that it is full up. So he will turn back. Allah will again say: 'Go and enter Jannah. For you have what is equal to ten times the world.'

He will say: 'Are You making fun of me while You are the King?" At this I (i.e., the narrator) saw the Messenger of Allah laugh till his premolars were visible and he said, "Such man will be the last dweller of Jannah in its lowest rank." [Bukhari and Muslim].

Commentary: The general habit of the Prophet was just to smile. But while telling about the gifts and honours about an ordinary person in Jannah, he could not help laughing in a manner that his molars became visible. The person on the lowest pedestal in Jannah will be given ten times better things and gifts that could he had on this earth.

Hazrat Anas (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah [SAWW](PBUH) came to visit Saad bin Ubadah (May Allah be pleased with him) who presented bread and olive oil to him. The Prophet [SAWW](PBUH) ate it and said, "The observers of fast have broken their fast with you (this is the literal translation, but the meaning is: `May Allah reward you for providing a fasting people with food to break their fast’); the pious people have eaten your food and the angels invoked blessings on you.”

[Abu Dawud Hadith # 3854].

Hazrat Aishah (May Allah be pleased with her) reported: The Messenger of Allah [SAWW](PBUH) used to observe Itikaf in the last ten days of Ramadan and say, "Seek Lailat-ul-Qadr (Night of Decree) in the odd nights out of the last ten nights of Ramadan.”

[Al-Bukhari Book 03, Chapter 32, Hadith # 234].

25th Ramadan 1435 (23rd July 2014)

Narrated Abu Said Al-Khudri (Radi-Allahu 'anhu):

Allah's Apostle (Sallallahu 'Alaihi Wa Sallam) used to practice Itikaf (in
the mosque) in the middle third of Ramadan and after passing the twenty
nights he used to go back to his house on the 21st, and the people who were
in Itikaf with him also used to go back to their houses.

Once in Ramadan, in which he practiced Itikaf, he established the night prayers at the night
in which he used to return home, and then he addressed the people and
ordered them whatever Allah wished him to order and said, "I used to
practice Itikaf for these ten days (i.e. the middle 3rd but now I intend to
stay in Itikaf for the last ten days (of the month); so whoever was in
Itikaf with me should stay at his place of seclusion.

I have verily been shown (the date of) this Night (of Qadr) but I have forgotten it.

So search for it in the odd nights of the last ten days (of this month). I also saw
myself (in the dream) prostrating in mud and water." On the night of the
21st, the sky was covered with clouds and it rained, and the rain-water
started leaking through the roof of the mosque at the praying place of the
Prophet (Sallallahu 'Alaihi Wa Sallam).

I saw with my own eyes the Prophet
(Sallallahu 'Alaihi Wa Sallam) at the completion of the morning prayer
leaving with his face covered with mud and water.

The Prophet (sallAllaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) said:

“In Paradise there are apartments the outside of which can be seen from the inside and the inside of which can be seen from the outside.” A Bedouin stood up and said: “Who are they for, O Messenger of Allaah?” He said: “They are for those who speak good words, feed others, fast regularly and pray to Allaah at night when people are sleeping.”

[Tirmidhi 1984, Hasan by Albani]

The Prophet (sallAllaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) said:

“Make sure that you perform prayers in the night, since it is the habit of the righteous people before you and it will take you in proximity to your Sustainer, and it will remit your evil doings (minor), and it will prevent you from committing sins”

[Mustadrak al Haakim 1156, as per the the conditions of Imam Bukhari also Tirmidhi 3549 and declared Hasan ba Shawahid by Albani in Mishkat ul Masabih 1227]

26th Ramadan 1435 (24th July 2014)

Narrated Aisha (Radi-Allahu 'anha):

With the start of the last ten days of Ramadan, the Prophet (Sallallahu
'Alaihi Wa Sallam) used to tighten his waist belt (i.e. work hard) and used
to pray all the night, and used to keep his family awake for the prayers.

Bukhari Vol. 3 : No. 241

Hazrat Ibn Umar (May Allah be pleased with them) reported: Some of the Companions of the Messenger of Allah [SAWW](PBUH) saw Lailat-ul-Qadr (Night of Decree) in their dreams in the last seven nights of Ramadan, whereupon the Messenger of Allah [SAWW](PBUH) said, "I see that your dreams all agree upon the last seven nights. Whosoever seeks it, let him seek it in the last seven nights.”

[Al-Bukhari Book 03, Chapter 32, Hadith # 232].

Reported by Abu Huraira (RA): The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, ‘The Imam is (appointed) to be followed. So do not differ from him, bow when he bows, and say, ‘Rabbana-lakal hamd’ if he says ‘Sami’a-l-lahu Liman hamida’; and if he prostrates, prostrate (after him), and if he prays sitting, pray sitting all together, and straighten the rows for the prayer, as the straightening of the rows is amongst those things which make your prayer a correct and perfect one.
