Hair thinning in women

lol.
I have read some of the replies here and I can't think of a worst thing that attributing hair loss to Hijab.

Your friend needs to a see a doctor ASAP-- for several reasons which I am going to list.
You say she is thinning on top which sounds to me like male pattern hair loss (usually due to androgenic) causes... she needs to have a hormone panel checked, since hair loss with one of these problems would be the least of her worries.
One of the first things that come to mind is polycystic ovary disease.
There is also pre-mature ovarian failure, there is Telogen effluvium: when all hair follicales go into arrest at the same time, but in fact they grow back again in this particular condition. I don't believe that is what she has
Trichotillomania, a term used to describe people who are in the habit of pulling and twisting their own hair.
other Hormone problems. like hypothyroidism or problems with nutrition also can result in unhealthy hair that falls out or breaks easily.
there are also other forms of hair loss called Alopecia Areata, hair loss in small patches, Alopecia Totalis: more than 50% hair loss on the scalp. and alopecia universalis which is all hair is gone... every where...
there is also hair loss that is caused by a type of fungus and the longer she waits chances are hair will never grow back... There are many other causes which I haven't mentioned here because I am in a hurry however, if you want to give your friend excellent advise, you won't find it in cyber section but take her by the hand to the doctor's office, it is best to treat the underlying cause of the problem than speculating on what caused it...

alopecia doesn't cause hair thinning, the hair thins at the top of the head due to hormone imbalance.

I've been told that her hair is strong, it is thin and does grow back. Her hair used to be very thick that you couldn't bunch it into a pony tail, as a kid, and now it is "thin" like normal women. Apparently if hair is tied back in a certain way, for women, your hair can look thin on top?

There is baldness that happens from pulling your hair too tight it is a condition called "traction alopecia" unfortunately hair doesn't grow back in such a condition

you know your friend best all we can do here is speculate... she needs to check with a professional. If she wears Hijab the sister who mentioned natural material is absolutely genius. I can't stress organic clothes enough from head to too. They are breathable, they are cooling when need to be and warming when they need to be. I know that natural material has become expensive and they mass produce synthetics to keep up with demand but try to always stick with what G-D gave us.. wool, silk, cotton, linen... tons of natural things that can be used. You don't have to have a thousand piece at bargain price if you can have one or two expensive things that are worth it and maintain your well being and health
always G-D knows best
I pray for your friend's recovery...

Main Entry: al·o·pe·cia
Pronunciation: "a-l&-'pE-sh(E-)&
Function: noun
Etymology: Middle English allopicia, from Latin alopecia, from Greek alOpekia, from alOpek-, alOpEx fox; akin to Armenian aluEs fox, Sanskrit lopAsa
: loss of hair : BALDNESS

I have stated tons of reasons as to why a person might lose hair-- hormones can certainly be a cause but not the only cause.
peace!

hmmm i guess this is a bit different. Mine is nothing like that...i have thick peices of hair still...just not as much hair, because the fabric i used made my hair fall...:X

We all lose from 50 to 100 hairs per day. Hair is constantly in a growing cycle that lasts between two and seven years when new hair comes in it pushes old strands out I have mentioned above Telogen effluvium where all the hair follicales go into arrest at the same time but it does grow back. I wouldn't be alaramed if your hair just isn't as thick as it used to be when you were a kid... but if it mimics male pattern baldness it is best to seek help from a professional because the problem can be corrected not just for the sake of the hair but for hormonal imbalances that can affect other things such as fertility....
