The longest word on planet earth is the name of the tryptophan synthetase A protein. It's 1,913 letters long. Guiness only refers to the word rather than waste a couple of pages offering it, but I got it off the internet. You ready?

The word is

methionylglutaminylarginyltyrosylglutamylserylleuc ylphenylalanylalanyl-

dear sis Halima,

THIS is NOT a word , BUT an AMINO-Acid Sequence in a Protein molecule.

I can give u many times LONGER sequences than this.

bismillah! me with my dyslexia wont even make my eyes tired looking at it!:P

Although smiles is generally accepted as the longest word, because there is a mile between the Ss. I believe that we can find much longer words if we extend our search. Long is the only long word, and that can te extended to very long. But, we have longest also, surly longest must be longest because we can only have one longest. But, if we have longest, how can we have longer? Does that mean longer is longer even if it is not longest? What a paradox.

These metaphysical debates give me a headache.I just read what I wrote, now I need two aspirins and a nap.

it gave you a mere headache but after reading this thread I've started to suffer from Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia, and anyway I think "beleaguered" is longer than "smiles" because leagues are longer than miles :exhausted:laugh:

Are you sure that... thing in the first post is a word, as opposed to a typewriter sneeze?
