I've done snorkeling in Islands of Tioman, Pangkor and Redang. So far I've seen Redang as the most beautiful of these. The water's crystal blue, the fishes are friendly.

Much more beautiful if they get rid of those small pubs. :grumbling

^^^I've never been snorkelling...and i don't even know how to swim

I've been snorkeling without knowing how to swim. But take a life jacket and a pair of those ducklike shoes and *splosh!* I jump from the highest bow of the fishing boat. By the way, I lost one of my glasses this way. Still, it was fun to ask for the fishermen to dive and look for it.

Snorkeling can be really fun. Once you've seen cute ikan kembung swimming happily merely a foot away from your face, you'd be back re-examining one of the most fundamental facts of life, "Why, I thought ikan kembung only exists on a dinner platter!"

^^^oh my....i don't think i want to see cute ikan kembung...then i'll have no heart to eat them

Am I correct in assuming ikan kenbung are what we Westerners call Cuttlefish? I used to only see them on a dinner plate and they were delicious, but after seeing live ones I can no longer eat them.

If your cuttlefish looks like this one;

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cuttlefish

then it is not. It's not even a mackerel.

I'm so sorry. I've been gravely mistaken. I mean to say ikan bawal putih that is known as white pomfret. It's a very silly mistake to think ikan kembung and ikan bawal as one and the same.

I'm not bothered by the fact after seeing cute ikan bawal putih swimming around. It's very tasty when cooked in soy sauce and onions. Ikan masak kicap it is called. Served with fried eggs and rice.

My mum sometimes used ikan kembung for masak asam

while ikan bawal for soup or steamed....

Are fish cheap in Bahamas? Can you find those Malaysian fish like ikan cencaru, terubuk, sembilang, parang

CHEAP!!!

You must be kidding.

Bahamians hardly get to enjoy fish because it's so expensive!!

And also the varieties of fish are veryyyy limited. No we cannot get any types of fish here.

i remember in NZ...there is this one large lake....i can't remember the name...

it has only one kind of fish :uuh:

Steamed ikan bawal can be tasteless sometime, better put extra soy sauce.

I'm looking for someone who can prove to me that kari ikan bawal or masak lemak ikan bawal can be tasteless or downright ugly. So far I find the idea tempting. Oh... if only I can cook these things.
