Re: while searching today I found this

Would muslims be offended if Apple built an actuall replica of the Kaba?

That would depend on the reason and the usage. As an advertising gimmick I personally would be highly offended. As a teaching aid to give understanding of Islam I would be highly pleased.

What would you be willing to do to prevent the construction?

What would you be willing to do to prevent the construction?

1. Write to the president of the company and explain why I am offended

2. Gather a petition signed by people besides myself and send that to the president of the company.

3. boycott the product produced by the company if they persist in insulting my beliefs and urge others to do the same.

Good, I never really though a person like you would go about shouting "Death to Apple!"

How do you feel when Mecca is used in contexts other than the islamic holy city, such as a certain something is a mecca for a certain someone.
How do you feel about Apple nameing the building "Apple Mecca"?

This I have mixed feelings about. I am aware that Mecca has become an American English word and in English no longer refers to the Holy city of Mak'Kah.

mecca in English simply means a focal point of attraction. Those of us who are Muslim, need to use the proper name of Mak'kah and understand that the English word mecca does not apply to Mak'kah

Re: while searching today I found this

I suspect someone is trying to bait people in to an outburst of some sort but (may Allah bless him) Br. Woodrow is not easy to trick!!

back on topic:

word mecca, in English, has become a description for any place to which a large number of people are attracted. i.e so and so resort is mecca for holidaymakers etc. in Britain there is a bingo chain called mecca and also (I think) there is or was a betting shop chain in existence for decades.

Our holy city is named Makkah, whereas their dens of inequity are named mecca

not only in English.... In my country, it is a normal expression also to say ""city x" is like Mecca"... meaning what you say.

and another normal expression is "if Muhammad don´t go to the mountain, the mountain come to the Muhammad"... normal to express "impossible situations", that people can overthrown...

Re: while searching today I found this

In the UK, there's Mecca Bingo. To the immense displeasure of the BNP and likeminded far right xenophobes, no Muslims have rioted about it. No Muslims have even said anything about it publically, it seems. So fear not! Your grandmothers are safe, o close-minded chavs!

resemblance to the big black Ka'bah (AKA: The House O' Abraham) to whence all Islamic pilgrims take their grueling mandatory hajj."

Kabbah was NOT house of Abraham.

There is a traditionthat Kabbah is situated directly under Bait-ul-Mamoor(palace of Allah beyond 7h sky)

You realize of course that I am not the one you should direct this comment to but the one who wrote the actual article?

Jazaka Allah khyran
