And who owns that website? Even if its population is 170 million and internet users around 50 million, there is no way out of those 50 million users, only 2.3 million are on facebook. If 25% of all of pakistan's internet traffic is going to facebook, any one with "poor math" skills can tell you that's more than 2.3 million users.

According to https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/geos/pk.html, the number of internet users in Pakistan is 18.5 millions (2008).

as of the so called "internet traffic", it does not necessarily mean the number of users, it could mean frequency, bandwith, length of time etc. And Facebook users normally spend much more bandwith + time than any other sites.

I am all for boycotting Facebook, but we should not embellish truth to achieve our aim.

Traffic doesn't represent the number of users
sorry i was wrong about the internet users

From where you are giving the stats CIA
i don't believe that these are the exact figures of internet users of Pakistan

Salamu alaykum Wa rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuh...

I just want to clear something out. For us muslims, there should be respect among eachother even if we disagree with one another. No matter what, We are brothers And Sisters for sake of Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala. I was just reading some previous posts on this thread, and I see that A muslim said "Go to Hell" to another Muslim. This should not be tolerated at any cost. I am sure there are some non muslims enjoying over these arguements we are having. My advice is that we should cooperate with eachother and debate nicely. Personally, I think what Pakistan did was a good move even if their government is corrupt and treat their citizens bad.Rather, we should make dua if We cannot do anything by action to change the government.

Wallahi, I never knew that Facebook makes money from each user. Also, if a website that allows events like "Draw Muhammad Day" and does not condemn blasphemy we should not support it. May the peace and blessings of Allah be upon Rasoolillah(Sallallahu alayhi wasallam) and all the Prophets of Islam. Please forgive me for anything. May Allah unite us and forgive us all. Ameen.

Obviously you seem to ignore the degrading, patronising and insulting comments he posted to me. Maybe I should highlight the judgement comments he made towards me and you should take that into account. Nevertheless, “go to hell” was wrong.

*That there should be no insult to the scare personalities which related to other religion and which have no link with you, your freedom of speech should limited to you and your family, Offending other without any reason should be stopped through law.*

*I am sorry, I think my that Question was not for liberal and shameless person, who don't have any kind of importance of his mother even. That Peoples are going to insult her badly and making without clothes picture of his mother and showing with unknown people doing adultery on the big hoarding in the whole city and he is just ignoring. Shame on these kind of peoples.*

subhaanAllah! Would you ignore if someone was insulting your mother!? Would abu Bakr and Umar (radiAllahu anhuma) ignore someone insulting habib of Allah (sal-allahu alayhi wa salaam)? Did Allah Azza wa Jal ignore it!? Allhamdulillah, we're Muslims not Christians or any other religious followers. If we ignore today then they will do more tomorrow and so on and so on. Allhamdulillah, the Muslim ummah has defended any allegations or insults thrown at our Prophet (sal-allahu alayhi wa salaam) and we will continue to do so. Just because there is load of negative stuff on the Internet about our Prophet (sal-allahu alayhi wa salaam) doesn't mean we sit idle and do nothing and let that negative stuff pile on.

And defending him (sal-allahu alayhi wa salaam) is not concentrating on religion? It is an obligation upon us to defend his honor (sal-allahu alayhi wa salaam). When he (sal-allahu alayhi wa salaam) was alive, Allah Azza wa Jal defended his Prophet and so did the companions of Allah's Messenger (sal-allahu alayhi wa salaam). We can't let bunch of stupid people walk all over us.

May Allah guide us all and destroy those kuffaar, ameen

I actually have spoken to these people and decided they were not worth wasting my time on. I have taken action way before this group (by deactivating my account because you cannot delete, only deactivate it) because there are plenty of GROUPS in face book that has and have insulted the prophet (pbuh) and Allah (swt) himself. Examples ( I am not going to write allah (swt) name on it by replace it with G and our prophet with M but the actual group has got Allah (swt) and Mohammed (pubh) name on it. I hope you get what I mean: G is a pedophile, G is a pig, M is not prophet but just a pedophile, Ban Islam etc.. have existed way before "Draw Mohammed" and alot have joined. Also there are many racist groups on it and still continue to run.

Some of these group have existed a year and few more then a year. And all of the sudden everyone (muslims) are offened by "Draw Mohammed" when they have not checked out the content of these other groups. All are disgusting and God is a pig is the most disgusting group, actually promoting violence towards muslims children and enthic minorities (mainly black and Asian) and facebook has dont deleted such group. When I mean ingore this group, either you delete your facebook forever (not just boycott until the group is taken down) or you quit complaining. Because that site, itself has far worse thing on it. When I mean ingore it, you dont protest by screaming and shouting in the street, you delete your facebook FOREVER not boycott (for certain amount of time) or dont complain.

Pakistani "boycotting" facebook for certain amount of time is pathetic and the hypocrisy is appalling.

Actually you can delete it permanently, I just did deleted mine permanently, but you cannot log in for 14 days, it removes everything afterwards.

sister that was your misunderstanding. i said before my that paragraph, we want international ruling on this matter and i was talking on the points in those ruling.
In my those comments, the word "you" was for people who try to insult our prophet every time not that was for you. how can i says this for you.
you could not realize this situation so you have replied in these words.

*I find this statement insulting. What are you suggesting, because I don’t necessarily agree with you I must have joined the stupid group and drew Mohammed (pbuh) all in the name of free speech. Get you facts straight pal.

i have imagined your misunderstanding that time therefore i have not replied same way.
i am sorry if they were offensive for you.
Dear sister, May Allah Protect you. can i ask question from you. you have said we should ignore all people who insult our prophets or any person with we have relation and much love. You have ignored the big insult of Our beloved prophet S.a.w by those athiest or jews etc. but you could not ignore your own small and single insult by me (if that's was really insult). what's this mean ?, why two standard ? why more self importance than Prophets s.a.w ?
i hope you will think about this.

now you have said :

*Pakistani "boycotting" facebook for certain amount of time is pathetic and the hypocrisy is appalling.

i know pakistani Govt. is not good but we have to apreciate for their some good actions, you have not seen what this boycott has effected on the thinking of youth in the muslim word and in pakistan. It has created more awareness in youth. And it also have effected facebook therefore they have deleted that material and that cortonist have excused for it.
if there were no protest and boycott, did they do this > they have organised a big event and a website specialy for that event. have they do this due to your ignoring. we not only want to defend our prophet dignity but also want to save these people from such a big sin. you have mentioned there are many other group who insult islam. sister we are questionable for what we know. we have to forbide people from doing evil when we see them. Our religion has taught this as mention by "islamlife"
what about facebook bans time limit, the court who ordered to ban will decide for it.
pathetica and hypocrisy is showing infact from other islamic countries acts, who have not said even a single word against it.

May Allah Show us the right path.

For instance in this event, we can compare Pakistani Govt to Saudi Govt. We know that the king is a puppet of the west and all that. But the same King is the Custodian of the Haramain. He helps the pilgrims in many ways. They deserve criticism for their lack of heed towards Muslims who are suffering. Dua is the best weapon in a time where you are oppressed but there is no Khalifa to wage war on enemies of Islam.

Oh sorry I misunderstood. I think you misunderstood me too. When I mean ignore it, I mean delete facebook out of your life forever. The thing is there were already groups on facebook insulting our prophet (pbuh), I just think people should delete facebook permanently.
I have personally spoken to these people; they are bigots and will keep on creating hateful groups. There is no reasoning with such people. The best option for Pakistan is to ban facebook forever. Facebook can delete groups straightaway after overwhelming complaints, thousands of people complained about these groups I mentioned (even the non Muslims because it was inciting hate and violence towards Muslims and ethnic minorities) and facebook has not deleted them yet. Facebook can delete groups straightaway and have done so many times before. And if there was a time limit, these groups are well overdue.
I don’t mind protesting peacefully just those that protest with violence is the problem. Peaceful protest without violence and hate speech is the way to go and please to see there were many happening regarding this matter. But I think action speaks louder then word, facebook had many chances to stop these groups and failed. Boycott facebook forever and the next “social networking” site (and there will be one, people will get tired of facebook) can learn from their mistake.
I think Saudi Arabia don’t allow access to these websites, I think they banned it because of female and male mixing or something. I don’t know where I heard this but I think they might have banned facebook.
Did facebook delete the Draw M group? I thought it was still running.
Sorry for the insult.

I rather not join any social network websites anymore..its better to just avoid the fitnah completely..:w:

^^ Yeah unfortunately the ban was only till may 31st. Hopefully it did some damage to Facebook.

Lol at this comment on the page linked above "I think justice sahib has been missing facebook a lot as he took no time to lift ban. ;)"

Apparently, the ban worked.
Alhamdulillah!

Pakistan lifts Facebook ban after page removed

By BABAR DOGAR, Associated Press Writer Babar Dogar, Associated Press Writer – Mon May 31, 11:07 am ET

LAHORE, Pakistan – Pakistan lifted a ban on Facebook on Monday after officials from the social networking site apologized for a page deemed offensive to Muslims and removed its contents, a top information technology official said.

The move came almost two weeks after Pakistan imposed the ban amid anger over a page that encouraged users to post images of Islam's Prophet Muhammad. Many Muslims regard depictions of the prophet, even favorable ones, as blasphemous.

"In response to our protest, Facebook has tendered their apology and informed us that all the sacrilegious material has been removed from the URL," said Najibullah Malik, secretary of Pakistan's information technology ministry, referring to the technical term for a Web page.

Facebook assured the Pakistani government that "nothing of this sort will happen in the future," Malik said.

Officials from the website could not immediately be reached for comment. They said earlier the contents of the "Everybody Draw Mohammed Day!" page did not violate Facebook's terms.

The page encouraged users to post images of the prophet to protest threats made by a radical Muslim group against the creators of the American TV series "South Park" for depicting Muhammad in a bear suit during an episode earlier this year.

Pakistan blocked Facebook on May 19 following a ruling by one of the country's highest courts. The Lahore High Court reversed its ruling Monday because of Facebook's response, paving the way for the government to restore access, Malik said.

The government will continue to block some Web pages that contain "sacrilegious material," but Malik declined to specify which ones.

The Facebook controversy sparked a handful of protests across Pakistan, many by student members of radical Islamic groups. Some of the protesters carried signs advocating holy war against the website for allowing the page.

Bangladesh also decided to block Facebook on Sunday but said it would restore access to the site if the offensive material was removed.

It is not the first time that images of the prophet have sparked anger. Pakistan and other Muslim countries saw large and sometimes violent protests in 2006 when a Danish newspaper published cartoons of Muhammad, and again in 2008 when they were reprinted. Later the same year, a suspected al-Qaida suicide bomber attacked the Danish Embassy in Islamabad, killing six people.

Anger over the Facebook controversy also prompted the Pakistani government to block access to YouTube briefly, saying there was growing sacrilegious content on the video sharing website. The government restored access to YouTube last week but said it would continue to block videos offensive to Muslims that are posted on the site.
