Hi.

I want to buy a copy of the Koran, but I'm not sure what the most decent English translated version. I'm wondering if anyone would be willing and able to give me suggestions.

Please, and thank you.

First and foremost. It is properly called Qur'an.

Most Mosques will gladly give you a copy for free. If you do not have a mosque near by there are numerous online sites that offer free copies. Most Bookstores also carry them. There are several good translations available. Personally for a non-Arabic Speaker I suggest getting both Pickthall and Yusuf Ali's translations. together they seem to compliment each other and give a truer feeling of the Arabic.

It's kind of a hobby of mine to collect english language qurans, so I've ready quite a few

My absolute favorite is the Muhammad Asad version. If you're in the US, you can get a copy for $8 to cover the cost of shipping from CAIR. It's well worth every penny. The book is beautifully put together, has excellent footnotes, and is a general easy read.

Regarding the Muhammad Asad translation, it has been mentioned that while the quality of the english is very good, his commentary and translation contains many errors and many views which go against the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and the consensus of Muslim scholars - may Allaah (swt) forgive him.

Peace.

This is Link in web site where you can read at same time different English Explanations (Translations) of Quran and can decide which is more clear for you!

http://quran.islamicnetwork.com/

Quran is only in Arabic as it is God's words, so any translation is more like Explanation then trasnlation!

Also you can search Quran by word or number of verse in this site!

May Allah (swt) guide us all!

Peace

Apparently the Sahih International translation is the best...

Just make sure the one you use is modern English!! Some of them use words like thou and whatever.
