Assalamu Alakium,

I reverted to Islam a little of a year ago, and shortly after I took shahadda, my twin sister also did alhamdaliah. This year has been growing experience for the both of us we have learned more about the religion and have worked to steady increase our deen. A few months ago, I started start to wear Hijab. Not an actual hijab but an infinity scarf, that I wrap around my hair for coverage. It works okay, but sometimes I feel like I am still not properly covered because I wear jeans and shirts that are somewhat tight. I do not want to displease Allah, I do try my best to cover as commanded. But being a college student and disowned by our parents after reverting to Islam, I can not afford to buy abayas or hijabs. They are so expensive in the USA. Does anyone know where I can receive help? or where me and my sister can purchase modest clothing for a low price?

Salam sister. I am not at a position to help you unfortunately but maybe a sister or brother from the US can help you. What I want to say is that you don't displease Allah because of your clothes, but Allah just doesnt want you to be displeased because of your clothes.

Wasalam,

Thank you. but how can I not displease Allah, when I do not cover properly?

You are correct, it is displeasing to Allah to dress inappropriately. And it is excellent that you are concerned about this issue.

I think you can buy modest clothing for a low cost online, here are some sites:

Sister, it is not too difficult to 'hijabify' your existing wardrobe for the time being until you find abayas. There are some clothes items you can buy almost in any good clothes store, try looking for long skirts or maxi-dresses (these are invaluable, even now I mainly wear skirts), also over-sized clothes for women are in fashion anyway these days, buy some extra long cardigans or loose jumpers. With jeans you could try a knee-length cardigan or long shirt. I slowly transitioned my clothes in this way myself as I built up my wardrobe of modest clothing.

May Allah bless you and your sister and make it easy for you :)

How are you doing in your search for the abayas? I think there is one forum somewhere that was giving abayas to girls in the United States. I will look for it, because they seemed to have changed their website. But look at this one on Facebook! https://www.facebook.com/umanasfoundation/ It is a foundation to provide hijabs and abayas to Muslimahs ^___^ Let me know sister.

There is also this thread: http://www.islamicboard.com/new-muslims/134328125-free-hijab-scarves-muslims.html recommended!

I tend to order things fro aliexpress and alibaba too for the undergarments for the hijabs (they have really cool undergarnments for about 3 dollars!)
