Seems like a good day to post natural phenomenon related pictures today.

I got this one last summer, obviously a bit of a suprise considering I was aiming behind the bolt

From the Orionid meteor shower last December. Meteors are tough and my first attempt netted me that tiny one on the left but at least it was right next to Orion :)

Beautiful Picts Bro. Being an amatur astronomer myself I am awed at your "catching" the meteor. Have you thought of submitting it to "Sky and Telescope"?

Here are some picts I took last week in south Dakota. We were returning to Minnesota from Faith, SD where most of our horses still are. the pics are of Faith and going through the Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation, which begins near Faith. Sadly it got too dark before we got to the best scenery on the Rez. But, we pass through there about once a week so I will get some better ones Inshallah

Here in the distance is the gigantic Faith, SD airport

Thank you. You know, I never even thought of sending it in, it was such a frustrating night from about 1 am to 5 am of watching all these great meteors streak by but nothing in my camera lens, always the wrong place at the right time. I will be taking another wider angle lens out with me the next time I do this with hopefully much better results.

Flew the family to Washington D.C. last week for vacation, what a great time had by all. None of my six chldren had flown before so I think that was half the fun watching their reactions. D.C. was very warm but tolerable. The city was as nice as I remember it from the late 90's but security now is ridiculous compared to 10 years ago.

Was able to get in and have a nice sit down meeting with our congressman while we were there. He had helped us out with a situation a few years back and wanted to personally thank him, I just never thought my first time in a congressman's office would also involve six kids making a bunch of noise though :)

Even if you are not a fan of government so much, as in my case, the sheer number of museums and memorials is enough to consume over a week of your time. Highly recommended trip.

It is also a very photogenic city. Cameras are allowed in most everything, with only a few exceptions, like the Gallery of Congress. I will post a few up here.

Salam

The Rotunda ceiling in the capitol. The full size version is clear enough to zoom in and read the wording.

Thank you and no, we did not get through the Library of Congress, although we did walk by it on our way to Union Station for lunch :D

We scheduled 5 days in D.C. but it still wasn't enough to hit everything we wanted to. There was a full Library tour available but your Congressman needed to seek approval for you to get it, just like the Capitol building.
