there are many pratan sikh books that indicate sikh history.

for good books on sikhi you need punjabi really. but id recommend saay kheniya by Sant Baba Harnam Singh jee, rampur khera wale, as a informative book on sikhi, its availale in english aswel!

or may be Bhai Randheer Singh jee, bhai Rama Singh jees books..

if need any info or places where to get them from just pm me!

I can read Punjabi, however I just feel that I may have a better understanding of it it English.

Sorry sis, I think the main thing that could be turning people away is the negative attitude among Sikhs. I don't know why but instead of encouraging people, the religious fanatics among Sikhs spend more time trying to find faults in others and tell them that they are not Sikhs, even though we know nobody is a perfect Sikh, not even those fanatics themselves.

Sikhi is very simple. Sikhi = Humanity + God...

trying to say that u may not have met a gursikh kid...u may have met a sikh though..

As for Hadiths, we have Bhai Gurdas ji, who in his verses hold the key top the SGGS! I'll find you the link so you can have a read of it. - Our parents generation failed, they see they were wrong now, but the youth have taken over. A new Sikhi has been nurtured. Most Gurdwaras i attend are full of youth, they particpate in events catered for the young. So things have changed, should have happened sooner, but hey at least they've woken up now!

Times are changing veeera, and people are embracing Sikhi, it's the religion of the future. - If you want to make a change go and get involved in the Gurdwaras, don't let old fuddy duddy men tell you to go away, we are the future and we shall make Sikhi Flourish!! :D

Sorry guys, I think we shouldn't refer to Waheguru as Allah.

The reason behind is that we don't know for sure what state of mind you have to be in order to be united with the creator. There is no proof that Mohammad was in the same state as Jesus or Nanak when he came up with the word Allah.

So in my opinion, there is a possibility that Allah isn't same as Waheguru.

Oh so you're not learned in SGGS, are you brother?

Many times Allah is mentioned in SGGS, so should we erase it from further publications?

Contemplate on this verse in the SGGS....

Koi Bole Ram Ram koi Khudaee,. Koi sevay Gosainyan koi Allah ".

Some call him Ram, some Khuda. Some say Gosain, some Allah. :statisfie

I know people like Kabir Sahib and Fareed Sahib, having Sufi background, used the word Allah.

If you read the end of this shabad, it says Kaho Nanak jinn hukam pachhaata prabh sahib ka tinn bhed jaata. In other words, people call Him by many names but it's all useless and only the one who recognizes His Hukam (Will) will know the secret of Prabh Sahib...

No If's and buts about it. If you only want verses by Dhan Guru Nanak Dev Ji, here....

1 - Baabaa Alhu Agam Apaar.

O Baba, the Lord Allah is Inaccessible and Infinite.

2 - Alaahu Alakh Agamm Kaadar Karanhaar Kareem.

He is Allah, the Unknowable, the Inaccessible, All-powerful and Merciful Creator.

(Guru Nanak Dev - Page 53, Line 10)



Why are you even bringing such a trvial point up? (actually it's non-existent) Do we not have enough to contend with!

Guru Sahib have referred to Waheguru as brother, sister, father and mother. Remember tu'n mera pita, tu'n hai mera maata, tu'n mera bandhap, tu'n mera bharaata? It doesn't mean that Waheguru is same as brother, sister, father and mother. All it means is that Waheguru is everything to me.

The same way, it "could be" that guru ji is referring to Waheguru as Allah to say that only Waheguru is my everything including Allah, what Muslims think of as Waheguru.

No I don't give in at all. I won't refer to Waheguru as Allah. I don't know what exactly Allah means and my assumption is that Mohammad Sahib introduced this word. What I do know is that this word describes relationship of the person, who introduced this word, with the creator. This is the word how that person thought of the creator. If I agreed with everything in Islam, then yes it would make sense for me to refer to Waheguru as Allah. But I am not even familiar with everything in Islam and I do disagree with with some of what I know about through some of the people. So it doesn't make sense , at least for me, to refer to Waheguru as Allah on a regular basis. God is an English word and since we are all communicating in English, it should be OK to refer to Him as God. Plus, I think Sikhi has a lot more in common with Chrisitianity as far as humanity goes...

I hope you realize that this isn't trivial...
 
Allah is neither masculine nor feminine. It cannot be pluralized. Allah means the One and Only worthy of being Worshipped. Which is why we use Allah to refer to God. No Muhammad(saw) didn't make it up.. he(saw) wasn't literate.

Sister correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Allah the word used way before Mohammed's time?
