Does the Quran and or the Hadith talk about how alcohol can get you drunk or intoxication I heard that the Quran says alcohol can make you forget your prayers ?
Dear truthseeker,
As sister Insaanah told you with those verses that one cannot even pray when they are inebriated and in Tafsir (explanation of the Quran) one will read further that anything that clouds the mind in any way would also invalidate the prayers some say even extreme anger, even a sip of alcohol is forbidden.
Therefore the how it makes one drunk is also immaterial. Drunks are known to forget where they live never mind forget to pray.
Unfortunately there are those who interpret these verses to mean get drunk only, and not just drinking.
As for alcohol it's effects are well known and there is a famous story which has been told in many ways:
Three people where arguing about which is a worse sin, whether to get drunk, to rape or to kill someone.
After along discussion they decided that getting drunk was the most benign as it only harmed the drinker.
The one who initiated the topic was a secret drunk who now encouraged by his friends favourable remarks went to celebrate.
He ended up drunker than usual went home fought with his wife then went and raped the neighbour's wife and when the husband returned and saw him there he killed him and his wife.
The story true or not has been told through the ages as a lesson to what drinking may cause one to do.
The best Hadith in this matter would be "if one is not sure of something being allowed or not it's best to leave it" (not ad verbum)
That way if you are not sure of a drink, mixture or some "organic" substance it's best to let it be.
If one has to take pain killers that effect the mind, the best middle of the road advice would be pray and then when better repeat those prayers turning those prayed under medication into Nafl prayers, or seek better advice.
Masalam
