I am called by different names in the Qur'an

I am mentioned as an example in a verse mentioning Jannah
I am mentioned as an example in a passage mentioning the Hellfire
I am a sign of Allaah's creation

I was a trial for a people
I was a means to an act of worship
Allaah has mentioned me in relation to the Day of Judgement

What am I?

Can I push in before I forget my question...

Creation of the Jinnkind?

The camel which was sent to people of Thamud?
Yes, :ma:! The answer is the camel in general:

I am mentioned as an example in a verse mentioning Jannah
Verily, those who belie Our Ayat and treat them with arrogance, for them the gates of heaven will not be opened, and they will not enter Paradise until the camel goes through the eye of the needle. Thus do We recompense the Mujrimun. [Al-A'raf 40]

I am mentioned as an example in a passage mentioning the Hellfire
Verily, it (Hell) throws sparks (huge) as Al-Qasr (a fort or a huge log of wood), As if they were yellow camels or bundles of ropes. [-Al-Mursalat: 32-33]

I am a sign of Allaah's creation
Do they not look at the camels, how they are created? [Al-Ghashiyah: 17]

I was a trial for a people
He said: "Here is a she-camel: it has a right to drink (water), and you have a right to drink (water) (each) on a day, known. And touch her not with harm, lest the torment of a Great Day should seize you." [Ash-Shu'ara: 155-156]

I was a means to an act of worship
And proclaim to mankind the Hajj (pilgrimage). They will come to you on foot and on every lean camel, they will come from every deep and distant (wide) mountain highway (to perform Hajj ). [Al-Hajj: 27]

Allaah has mentioned me in relation to the Day of Judgement
And when the pregnant she-camels are neglected; [At-Takweer: 4]

^ I was thrown off by the "Means to an act of Worship" lol

I am mentioned in the Qur'an

I contained blessed objects
I roamed between the Sky and Earth
People saw me being given to the Righteous successors as proof of their Succession

What Am I?

Is it the Ark of the Covenant?

And their prophet said to them, "Indeed, Allah has sent to you Saul as a king." They said, "How can he have kingship over us while we are more worthy of kingship than him and he has not been given any measure of wealth?" He said, "Indeed, Allah has chosen him over you and has increased him abundantly in knowledge and stature. And Allah gives His sovereignty to whom He wills. And Allah is all-Encompassing [in favor] and Knowing."

And their prophet said to them, "Indeed, a sign of his kingship is that the chest will come to you in which is assurance from your Lord and a remnant of what the family of Moses and the family of Aaron had left, carried by the angels. Indeed in that is a sign for you, if you are believers."
(2:247 - 248)

Yes. It's called "At Tabut"

Their Prophet then proclaimed, "The sign of the blessings of Talut's kingship over you is that Allah will give you back the Tabut (wooden box) that has been taken from you.'' Allah said:

(wherein is Sakinah from your Lord) meaning, peace (or grace) and reassurance. `Abdur-Razzaq stated that Qatadah said:

﴿فِيهِ سَكِينَةٌ﴾

(wherein is Sakinah) means grace. In addition, Ar-Rabi` said that Sakinah means mercy. This is also the meaning given by Ibn `Abbas, as Al-`Awfi narrated.

Allah then said:

(...and a remnant of that which Musa (Moses) and Harun (Aaron) left behind,)

Ibn Jarir related that Ibn `Abbas said about this Ayah:

﴿وَبَقِيَّةٌ مِّمَّا تَرَكَ ءَالُ مُوسَى وَءَالُ هَـرُونَ﴾

(...and a remnant of that which Musa (Moses) and Harun (Aaron) left behind, ) Meaning, Moses' staff and the remnants of the Tablets. This is the same Tafsir of Qatadah, As-Suddi, Ar-Rabi` bin Anas and `Ikrimah, who added, "And also the Torah.'' `Abdur-Razzaq said that he asked Ath-Thawri about the meaning of,

(...and a remnant of that which Musa (Moses) and Harun (Aaron) left behind,)

Ath-Thawri said, "Some said that it contained a pot of manna and the remnants of the Tablets, while some others said that it contained (Moses') staff and two shoes (and refer to 20:12).''

Allah then said:

(...carried by the angels.)

Ibn Jurayj stated that Ibn `Abbas said, "The angels came down while carrying the Tabut between the sky and the earth, until they placed it before Talut while the people were watching.'' As-Suddi said, "The Tabut was brought to Talut's house, so the people believed in the prophethood of Sham`un (Simeon) and obeyed Talut''

The Prophet then said:

﴿إِنَّ فِي ذَلِكَ لأَيَةً لَّكُمْ﴾

(Verily, in this is a sign for you) testifying to my truth in what I was sent with, my prophethood, and my command to you to obey Talut,

(if you are indeed believers. ) in Allah and the Hereafter.'

I am mentioned in the Qur'an.

I was once forgotten.
I was once forbidden.
A prophet associated with me made a well known dua.
What am I?

(note the answer is a general category of the same thing)

Is it the tree, referring to the one Prophet Adam :as: was forbidden to eat from?

That does actually seem to fit a bit, though I was thinking of something else....

As a bit more detail to the 3rd clue, the prophet associated with the thing in question, is once referred to in the Qur'an in relation to this thing. Don't know if that helps or makes it worse...

Assalaamu alaikum,

I'm not sure of my answer. The extra explanation throws me off a bit. And the "general category" makes me wonder, too.

Could it be the Ka'bah?

1) It is mentioned twice in the Quran by this specific name.

2) It was built by the Prophet Adam (AS) and then forgotten and buried at some time, to be rediscovered when the Prophet Ibrahim (AS) decided to build there with his son Isma'il (AS).

3) Ibrahim and his son (AS) say this dua' when rebuilding : رَبَّنَا تَقَبَّلْ مِنَّآ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ ٱلسَّمِيعُ ٱلْعَلِيمُTranslation

And (remember) when Ibrâhim (Abraham) and (his son) Ismâ'il (Ishmael)(peace be upon them) were raising the foundations of the House (the Ka'bah at Makkah), (saying),

“Our Lord! Accept (this service) from us. Indeed! You are the All-Hearer, the All-Knower.”

This du'a is in the Qur'an, so surely it is well known. But perhaps there is another du'a which you were thinking of?

4) The Muslims were forbidden from making Hajj one year by the Meccans at the time of the treaty of Hudaybiyyah.

Anyway, thank you for the riddle. (smile) It was instructive, even if I am incorrect.

May Allah, the Friend and Helper, Bless those who strive to follow the Guidance He Sent to the beautiful descendant of Ibrahim (Peace and Blessings upon them both).

I can only go through the posts here... horrible at these trivia :embarrass

in most cases, I can't even hazard a guess.. ;D

Ameen to the beautiful dua, and a good effort there.

You could use a Qur'an search website like Qur'an.com to search for key words in the questions and see if you can build towards something that seems to fit. Not always easy though!

I think my clues may have been slightly off...

I was thinking of .....

Fish

I was once forgotten.

And when Moses said unto his servant: I will not give up until I reach the point where the two rivers meet, though I march on for ages.
And when they reached the point where the two met, they forgot their fish, and it took its way into the waters, being free.
And when they had gone further, he said to his servant: Bring us our breakfast. Verily we have found fatigue in this our journey.
He said: Did you see, when we took refuge on the rock, and I forgot the fish - and none but Satan caused me to forget to mention it - it took its way into the waters by a marvel.
(18:60-63)

I was once forbidden.

And ask them about the town that was by the sea - when they transgressed in [the matter of] the sabbath - when their fish came to them openly on their sabbath day, and the day they had no sabbath they did not come to them. Thus did We give them trial because they were defiantly disobedient. (7:163)

A prophet associated with me made a well known dua.

And @ Dhu'n-Nun, when he went off in anger and thought that We would not decree [anything] upon him. And he called out within the darknesses, "There is no deity except You; exalted are You. Indeed, I have been of the wrongdoers." So We responded to him and saved him from the distress. And thus do We save the believers. Had not a Grace from his Lord reached him, he would have been thrown onto the naked shore while he was censured. But his Lord chose him and made him of the righteous.
