Lectures mostly and my Islamic Studies teacher

i don't like reading much unless its a hadith book or the quran i rather listen to it being explained

:sl:
When I first became muslim I was learning from the internet. Then, I was learning from books/lectures and now alhamdulillah I am studying under a sheikh :)

My Islamic studies teacher was an Imam. :coolious:
I learned so much from him and when he left to study more in the Middle East. I started researching on my own, from some the books and sites he used and recommended. I learned "*gasp* Some of the stuff he said he directly quoted Ibn Kathir and many other scholars. Not to mention the Hadith and Quran. With that, I took off learning from there, I found more and more articles here and there, on the internet and in stores.
=).

I guess I learned a few basics in Sunday school and how to pray kinda lol, I mean I figured it out by accumulating what I learned in 3 sunday school schools.

My parents, erm not so much. I mean they encouraged me to learn and put in me classes, but they were learning too.

My grandma taught me all the small Surahs and the concept of God, and the Shahadah.

:sl:

My Mother
..love her

and my Teacher is a Scholar...MashALLAH speaks 4 different languages..very knowledgable..InshALLAH i want to be a scholar myself so thats who i learn from

take advantage brothers and sister.

What did you like about Jewels of the Holy Quran? What other products from this website did you like?

:sl:

i absolutely love Mufti Menk's kutbahs! each year, after reciting Taraweh, he gives a 30-40 minute talk on the Juz that were just read. i first got a packagew deal from Simply Islam containing 3 years worth of these talks, Tafseer from 2003[10 cds], Points To Ponder from 2004[14 cds] and Reason of Revelations from 2005 [14cds]

this set here:

http://www.simplyislam.com/iteminfo.asp?item=57802

i first listened to Tafseer while finishing Yusuf Ali's translation of the Qur'an. it being my 1st time completing the Qur'an [in English :-[] i was a little overwhelmed by all of the material. THEN i started reading Muhammad Asad's The Message of the Quran : New 2004 Authorized Edition (Muhammad Asad) English and Arabic from here:

http://islamicbookstore-com.stores.yahoo.net/b8257.html
i also switched to Reasons of Revelation
[available for free here: http://www.muftimenk.co.za/Downloads.html]

it's base upon Asbab Un Nazool, and is all about WHY certain Ayats were revealed! I WAS THUNDERSTRUCK! i had heard/read "Makkan Surah/Madinan Surah" and assumed that the Surah's came down mostly whole, i was wrong! this series of lectures changed my life and really brought the Qur'an alive in a way i wouldn't have thought possible!

btw, the "video" download that is available on this page:

http://www.muftimenk.co.za/Downloads.html

is the 1st lecture from Jewels and the 2. Tafseer - Ramadaan 1428 (2007) Cape Town is the audio from Jewels!

i have just about EVERYTHING available by Mufti Menk, having just go "Jewels", the Taraweh set and the Straight Path. this morning i ordered more "Jewels" and a the single cds that aren't on the Cape Tour 2005 or the Straight Path, alot of which are available here:

http://www.muftimenk.co.za/Downloads.html
on 2. Mufti Ismail Menk Lecture Series - Volume 1 and 3. Mufti Ismail Menk Lecture Series - Volume 2; also great is 1. Social Conduct - Ramadaan 1425 (2004);

the Jewls vid is 27 lectures about 15 hours on 5 discs and Mufti Menk is the most amazing lecturer on Islam that i've ever heard!

compare the Simply Islam prices to soukIslam plus extra 10% off with this code [SPEC7861; valid until the end of the month!] and it's a bad decision NOT to buy! In Sha'a Allah i may also purchase some of their Zakir Naik and/or Deedat vids. and today i also ordered: Qasas Ul Anbiya - Stories of The Prophets by Sheikh Dr Tareq; hey, 20 cds for $20!

shown here:http://www.soukislam.com/shopexd.asp?id=701

hope this helps!

i have my social studies teacher to thank for first telling me about islam. we had a religion unit to do and so we learned about different religions. i was particularly inspired by islam, and so began to look for information on my own on the internet. more and more each day i have come to consider islam as the perfect religion for me:)

You really must enlighten me as to what a "Muslim gangsta" is. Perhaps it's someone who looks like 50 Cent in a Jalabiya and Keffiyeh, and some "bling" for good measure.

sometime parents inherited their ancestors teaching...but somehow parents teach wrong things to their children if they dont have a real prove and a truth to tell to their children...so is better to ask the children to learn it from the imam, thafiz, uztaz and uztazah..and people who really study islamic...a lot...thank you
