Arabic Q & A

In certain languages a noun or an article changes depending on the situation (case) it is used.

German for instance:
ein Hund - a dog
Ich sehe einen Hund - I see a dog.

yes we have that in Arabic.. also based greately on conjugation...
Arabic grammar is quite difficult.. Maybe someone with more patience than me, can go into when it is ok to use for instance 'moslmeen' as opposed to 'moslemoon' both essentially mean the exact same thing.. tayeboon over tayebeen.. when do you use the verb to actualize and affirm the action of the verb, when to use jama3 mozhakar salem, and when to use jama3 mo'anath salem.. also what it is that dictates 'vowels' in Arabic we have no vowels but we have rules of grammar on when it is we use a fat7a, dama, kasra, sikoon or shadda.. or when to play with words so you performing ith'har, iqlab, idgham etc.. all the basic tenets of proper Arabic as we know it today, have come from the Quran.. that is the best form of Arabic..
If you were interested in learning it as a language, I'd start with the Quran!

cheers!

I don't know...I find arabic rather ugly...it doesn't sound beautiful at all.
I like the writing though.:happy:

Arabic is a semitic language and the crown Jewel of all semitic languages as it is the most developed....

Alot of people agree Arabic doesn't sounds beautiful.. but there is no doubt.. when the Quran is recited, it is most appeasing to the heart and ears...and quite beautiful to hear!

Yep it has singular dual and plural.
I don't know what you mean by grammatical case :-\

Arabic has 3 tenses, past present and future, (maadhi, mudhaara, and mustaqbil)

:sl:
are you refering to verbs, or anything in general. if verbs, you forgot amr (imperitive).

Alot of people agree Arabic doesn't sounds beautiful
really?? thats the first o've heard of it. :sunny:i think its beautiful to listen to. quran or otherwise.

I have heard it from many people.. perhaps they were just being objectionable?.. but they often assimilate to German.. at least that is what they told me it sounds like to them.. I think it sounds just exactly like Hebrew.. they said it sounds like a 'masculine language'-- obviousely they haven't heard spoken by Lebanese ;D-- either way it is inconsequential to me what folks think of Arabic.. they can't take away from its status.. its eloquence, its sovereign over expression.. I struggle many times to find equivalent words in English that are tantamount to those in Arabic.. the end result is you end up using more than one adjective to describe it.. for instance in suret an-nazi3at

بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمنِ الرَّحِيمِ
وَالنَّازِعَاتِ غَرْقًا {1}
[Pickthal 79:1] By those who drag forth to destruction,

وَالنَّاشِطَاتِ نَشْطًا {2}
[Pickthal 79:2] By the meteors rushing,

وَالسَّابِحَاتِ سَبْحًا {3}
[Pickthal 79:3] By the lone stars floating,

فَالسَّابِقَاتِ سَبْقًا {4}
[Pickthal 79:4] By the angels hastening,

you notice how many words are needed to describe just two words in Arabic.. it is that delivering and that powerful...
Actually a part of its wonder and beauty aside from the obvious, rhyme, meaning, syntax, style that is very different in each sura, to translate or transliterate, will never meet on similar, equal, or analogous.. but I appreciate that the translators have done their best..

:w:

no, no, no, no, no, no!:ooh::uuh::muddlehea

you are familiar with either languages to make that averment?
I have had tons of Jews mistake my Arabic for hebrew!

either way.. Arabic is the most exquisite and the most supremely evolved of all ancient semitic languages-- regardless of your antipathy!

cheers

I am familiar with the sound of both. Also I speak some Hebrew and I don't find the languages to be similar. There are similarities of course, seeing that they're bot semitic but i cannot possible agree with your opinion that "arabic sounds just exactly like Hebrew"... It's like saying German and Dutch sound the same.

Hey, I'm not saying it isn't the most exquisite and the most supremely evolved of all ancient semitic languages. I'm just saying it doesn't sound pretty, which I know you can understand. I laso think that it doesn't sound like Hebrew.
how do you know it's the most exquisite and the most supremely evolved of all ancient semitic languages? Have you studied every semitic language?

Cheers:peace:

I did indeed study semitic languages as well as some cuneiform...
I not only say it sounds exactly like it, I'll go so far as say we have many words in common.. is there a point to this? or are we wasting each other's time on private opinions?

The rest of your statements is a belief that is held with confidence but not substantiated by positive knowledge or proof of, to that I say each is to his opinion! you can get any one out of five people to state a converse truth-- if there were indeed a point in doing so?.. I assume yours is just based on your own private prejudices, which is preventing you from objectivity!.. which is alright.. in the words of one famous man.. 'frankly.. I don't give a D***'
Hate it, love it, eat it, sleep on it launder it.. whatever tickles your----- fancy!

cheers!

Thanks much for your valuable inputs. I fully agree. :thumbs_up

Whatsthepoint
Any language you dont fully know, will sound ugly to you! I agree with you that some other languages may sound easier like Italian or French, but this is something else other than the power and superiority of a language. :smile:

As for verbs in Arabic, yes they are three: past, present and imperitive. Future is the same like present, but with different additions to the present verb.

I was just referring to tenses, amr also has a tense.

Beauty is in the eye of a beholder or in this case in the ear of a listener.
I must say I very much dislike Quran recitations.:enough!: I think dialects, at least those I've herad, are prettier.
