Since the practices of Judaism and there worship of the Torah go back way before Islam. And since the Torah which they regarded as so holy said that no prophet would change Judaism. Plenty of powerful people misuse religion. I saw a Muslim translating the Quran in a deceptive manner once, and Henry the IIIV started the Church of England because he wanted a divorce.
