no I don't know it, must post pix.. only understands pix.. needs visual aid... (said robot style)

its trinidadian/guyanese 'buss up shots' a kind of roti that you beat after its cooked to make it really fluffy n flaky

Its a chappati yaar :P

Theres different types of chappati's, but I so want to try beaten up roti's though!
I love the trinidad accent...its so funky. I wonder what other types of food there is in T&T. Hmm.
Slightly Hypoglycaemic today. Alhamdullilah.

I wander if I can be a bit finickety here...

A chapatti usually has oil or ghee added into the dough, whereas a pure roti is just wheat flour and water kneaded together, although the terms are being used interchangeably now.

Basically it is a round flatbread.

It looks like this:

Ideally, whilst being cooked, it should puff up like this (doesn't always happen though) then flatten when you take it off the stove

This forms the backbone of most Indian/Pakistani meals. You break off small pieces and use them as a spoon almost to scoop up whatever it is you're eating. We make them nearly every day....

The Trinidadian roti sounds different though...

Ah al7mdlillah sister and thanks for explaining it is pita breaddddddddddd.. :haha:
my God I absolutely detest ghee, can smell it a mile away, my mother uses it in Eid cookies, the mere scent is enough to make me vomit astghfor Allah.. not sure when I developed such an aversion to it, I wonder if your ghee is distinctively offensive like ours? because that means I'd have to cross trying your bread out :(

What happened to the Malaysians hording all the food not sharing with us?

Pitta bread tends to be thicker, this is really thin, with no yeast (I think pitta breads have yeast, not sure though..)

And you wouldn't have to miss it out, as we make the pure roti - ingredients: Wheat flour, water. That's it. Nothing else.

We've never put oil or ghee in ours. And to be honest, it's so long since we used ghee I can't remember what it smells like. But I don't think it was particularly offensive...

Amazing thread.

I've never noticed it before.

Some of the food looks too good. Nice to see pics.

I'm changing my career path - I'm going to start learning to cook now. A bit extreme but its good to know how to cook.

Sis Lily, apologies for neglecting my appearance on here.
We're having Maqlooba today.

I do enjoy squishing it down.

^^ I know what that is, I haven't had it for so long I can't remember whether I like it or not

basically I like chicken now and feel very chicken deprived.. it has been over a week since my last chicken and I am really going through withdrawal..

I think it's time for me to finally contribute to this thread. I took some pictures of tonight's dinner, just for you guys. :p

For Iftar, we had some Kabab... (Afghan style?)

And the main course was an Afghan dish called Kecheri Quroot. It basically consists of sticky rice, ground beef, yogurt, and some other stuff... I didn't make it, so I can't be any more detailed than that :p
