If you sin, you should repent immediately, and should compensate the action with good works and penitence. Never should you delay repentance.

Do you want Allah to remember you and come close to you?
The Prophet [:saws:] said, "Allah says: 'I am just as My slave thinks I am, (i.e. I am able to do for him what he thinks I can do for him) and I am with him if He remembers Me. If he remembers Me in himself, I too, remember him in Myself; and if he remembers Me in a group of people, I remember him in a group that is better than they; and if he comes one span nearer to Me, I go one cubit nearer to him; and if he comes one cubit nearer to Me, I go a distance of two outstretched arms nearer to him; and if he comes to Me walking, I go to him running.' "
- Carefully analyze all that you did for the day. Thereafter make shukr to Allah Ta’ala for the good that you have done and beg Him to allow you to continue in that good and if there are evil deeds then repent and feel regretful over what you have done.
- Imagine that the Angel of Death is before you and he is removing your soul. In the grave you are being questioned by the angels. On the plains of Hashar you are giving an account of your deeds to Allah Ta’ala. Thereafter you are made to cross over the Bridge of Siraat. Think about all these different stages and repent to Allah Ta’ala promising never to sin in the future.
