The interesting thing about this, and probably the reason she was detained, is because she hid the body and did not notify authorities right away. If she killed him in self defense, she should have notified the authorities right away.

As it looks now, it seems like she enticed him to the hotel with the promise of sex, murdered him and stole his money. That is probably why she was arrested.

From what I know, she hasn't been convicted yet, and if there is evidence of sexual assault, she probably will not be convicted.

But she really messed up by hiding the body, taking his stuff and leaving in his car. It doesn't look good.

It is hard to use an insanity defense in the united states since the burden of proof in such a case shifts to the defense, the defense must then prove, beyond a reasonable doubt, that the defendant was not aware that what she was doing was wrong.

This is very hard to prove in a court of law and temp. insanity please almost always fail in the United States.
 
mann dat is sooo sad.....inshallah allah will make things easier for her.....do dua every1..inshallah dat she will be in safety wif allah's help.....oh and some1 mentioned terrorism was the cause here......brother or sista,.......terrorism is only for muslims......dats wat they beleive.....we are terrorists but they are angels.....

Eh? Where the heck does terrorism come into this?

Imaad, I'm aware that temporary insanity and diminished responsibility are hard to prove in court, but they seem to be the only defences she has.

Come to think of it, maybe she could use Provocation.

Or something.

Do we even know if she exists? Before you all bash me, take this into consideration, this is something which is being emailed around, nothing has been mentioned in any sites, not even 1. Go ahead, type her name in google, and results from other forums will appear, the best excuse of a site I could fine was :

As muslims we are taught to confirm something, before passing it on...

She could just plead not guilty and hope the jury believes her story. Thats about the only other option.

A brother from New Jersey was able to find some more information
about this sister(may Allah reward him).

· Her name is Haila Gabr, some news outlets misquoted her name
· Second this case is a few years old. He couldn't confirm when this
incident occurred but knows that is not a new case.
· She was moved from Atlantic City jail to New Jersey State Prison.
· Her sentence was reduced to about 8 years.

The brother was also able to get her mailing address just incase
some sisters want to send her mail so as to comfort her especially
during this month of Ramadan. They can mail her at:

The same thing would have happened if the woman was non-Muslim.
 
To be fair, I remember all those women getting locked up for being guilty by proxy, example their boyfreind (of all of 2 weeks) was a drug dealer and they did not realise, the boyfreind got busted and the girlfreind got life for involvment in drugs, and these women were all types of women, black, white ect.
sadly American law is most unjust.

I know this has happened, but is it as wide spread as you say? Can you cite a few cases, I'm interested...

There was a movie made about it, but I can't remember the name, if you some research you will discover the crazed laws of USA.

I wrote to the sister Hailah, And elhamdolelah I recived a letter from her today mashallah !
I sent the letter recorded delivery to her, coz you know how letters can get 'lost' in the post, ahem !

Well mashallah the sister is very very brave, she was so happy to get a letter from another sister, especially in ramadan ! and I was so happy to get her letter in this day of Eid !

She says that she accepted a plea bargain of 10 years with 85% , basically means she is up for parole in dec 07, parole does not mean though she will be free for sure.
Her spirit seems very high and her Imaam seemed intact elhamdolelah !
She wanted to know all about this thread on this forum , this girl is clinging to allah, was very touching to read her letter.
She says when she gets out she wants to help other muslims that are locked up . mashallah.
Her exact words, were 'she wants to do everything possible to aid the muslimeen!'

Look how she is thinking and yet she is locked up in that hell hole, may allah bless her !

Well she knows of nobody campaigning or highlighting her case in UK, so im going to write back to her and get more details inshallah and make a decision on if it will be benefical to start a campaign for her, Im sure it will.
To atleast put pressure on them to release her in her parole of dec 07

If she is in usa, I dont think any organization in UK would be of any help. Although there are a few organizations that takes up the case of muslim prisoners (I think there is one for prisoners in Guantanamo), the most prominent one in USA is CAIR. There would at least be some exposure if CAIR takes up a case. But for some reason, they havent done anything about this sister, although they were intimated. It surprises me why no one (not even the family) is willing to even help her. It's good that she is responding to mails. I have seen quite a few websites made for such cause and I honestly have no idea how a website would be of any help.

i think this is because she doesnt have a proper family, Allah u a'lam but the article said her 'foster mother' had gone to a casino and the girl was going to meet with her again. so from that plot - it seems as if her foster mother may not have proper been into islam if she was gambling/going to a casino, yet at the same time because she is her 'foster mother' - it doesn't seem as if she would care that much because its not her real mother.

Abwan brother, don't be so pessimisitic,I think we should be optimisitic we have ALLAH on our side after all.
Yes caged prisoners (www.cagedprisoners.com) could possibly be of help should a english side campaign be started for her.
I can think of LOADS of things to do, and a website will help highlight it, get an online petition for example, and put her letters on the site ect.
And Im sure IHRC will be interested in her case inshallah.

She has not mentioned anything about her case or family, but if you look back to the case how she ended up in the postion she did.
She was more suprised to get a letter and say a million thankyous and talk about Allah before she mentioned what happened.
so Im gonna ask her for more details ect, inshalah.

Atleast write to the sister and send your thoughts, even if its a thinking of you card.
 
There are a couple of websites already having her story and updates and If I am not wrong, there is also a low profile organization trying to get some help for her and others in prison. And from what I have read people (at least a few) have visited her a few times (although not regularly).

It would require a lot of convincing for a big organization like CAIR to take this up and probably more for people to donate for such a cause. It would help if they get a clear picture of what had happened. One news article honestly would be of little help.
